A key will register once the IR signals were blocked by the stem of the switch during keypress. This is just a demonstration.

A good example of IR is in the remote control or your TV.

Usage during spill

I did not tried pouring soda, dairy or any alcoholic drink.

The keyboard malfunctioned few minutes after the spill, Some of the keys are registering automatically. So it is still advisable to unplug it.

I let it dry for 10 hours and the keyboard backs to normal without any issues. Unlike standard mechanical keyboards, there is no assurance that it will work again even you let it dry for a week.

Even it is waterproof, better to keep it dry minimum of 3 days before using especially if you wash it due to spill other than water.

You cannot avoid corrosion. So only do it when necessary. Frequent tests might damage your keyboard.
